G’day Once again from Central Queensland,
The link was going t be here, but them I’ll get accused of taking 45 minutes of your life.
Search “Pin Pointer comparison” on youtube, it should be in the first 5.
I am not bagging or advocating any product or brand in particular. It just turned out on my research that the TRX was the better option for me. No Matter what pinpointer you buy your going to love the thing. It saves you a lot of time and makes your footprint in an area very small. Its easy to grab coins etc without any trace of your presence.
Yes my addiction with duct tape continues…..
3 Things that needed to be addressed when I first got the TRX where:
- The speaker diaphragm is quite thin, I saw this in a video. So I simply stuck a small piece of duct tape over the speaker hole. Thos keeps out any sand/dirt and makes cleaning the trx as easy as wiping it with a wet cloth.
NOTE: It is rated to IP68 for waterproofing, but this came late in the party. Buying from Australia I was not sure if had a later or earlier TRX so I taped it to be sure.
- The Button is flush with the housing of the TRX. Not a big issue when your hands are bare, but when wearing gloves I was constantly looking for the damn on/off button.
SO Again with duct tape, I stuck a small piece of foam to the button. The tape covers the button completely and the foam underneath raises the button so I can find it in a second with gloves and without looking.
Now it does have a habit of turning on or off if you ram it in the holster to tight. This was a problem for about a week until I got used to using a lighter touch to put the TRX back on the belt.
One advantage to that is you can simply apply pressure to the outside of the holster and the TRX will turn on as you grab it, and when your finished just put it away and again apply pressure to the outside of the holster and hold for 2 seconds to turn off.
- The covers on the TRX are replaceable, so when it wears out you can buy another one. FOR LIKE $70! So I have wrapped the end about 1.5 inches up and around the point with, You guessed it, Duct tape. I just replace the tape every 3-4 hunts depending on what ground I was grubbing in at the time.
NO Depth is lost and my pinpointer, when stripped of tape and wiped down looks like I bought it yesterday. Should be able to avoid buying the replacement case for a long time yet.
All In All The TRX is awesome and I think again I made the right decision for me.
The 705 and the TRX are a formidable combination when taken to the parks and I have recovered as many as 53 targets in Just 2 Hours. (Surface coin popping, it was like someone threw a bag of $2 and $1 coins in the air)
I hope that makes a little sense and that you get something from my rambling.
It really doesn’t matter what pinpointer you use they all work pretty well. Even the $50 ones from Jaycar I hear.
So Like all equipment get the BEST YOU CAN AFFORD AT THE TIME. You can always upgrade after you fill a jar with spendables.
Take care and happy Detecting
